| Stormwater & Water Rates 2010
The Valparaiso City Council has approved the two-year rate increases for both Stormwater and Water. As your water utility, we strive to provide consistent, quality services. Over the past year, we’ve taken a look at a number of projects necessary to maintain and upgrade services. The increased revenue from the increased rates will allow our utility to move forward with these improvements.

The rate is currently $3/month for single-family residences. The proposed increase would be an additional $4/month in 2010; then an additional $4/month in 2011.

To cover the $15 million cost of 17 stormwater projects selected after an in-depth analysis and survey of customer needs.

How much is the increase?
The increase would amount to about $3/month for the average user in 2010 and an additional $2/month for the average user in 2011.
When was the last increase?
Rates have actually decreased since 1998. Even with the two proposed increases, the new rate will be less than the rate in 1998.
How do Valpo’s rates compare with other cities?
Even with the proposed increases, Valpo’s rates are very competitive.
Why is this necessary?
To support the city’s aging infrastructure – nearly half of the city’s water lines are more than 50 years old. We must update to maintain a reliable, long-term water supply that is in compliance with federal regulations.
