FIRE HYDRANT FLUSHING PROGRAM

Week of May 12, 2008: VCU is flushing in from Campbell Street to west side of VLACD / Haydon Manor and Ostedt Road.

The Valparaiso City Utilities will be implementing a Unidirectional Water Main Flushing Program for the City's Water Distribution System for 2008 starting approximately April 7, 2008. The goals and objectives for this program are to improve overall water quality and distribution system flows while at the same time reducing the amount of water used for flushing compared to our previous flushing programs. This will be accomplished by City water department crews flushing water mains in a sequential operation starting at the water treatment plants and then moving into the distribution system and working to cover all areas served by the water utility. The entire process of flushing the distribution system may take up to 100 days. During this time, each area that will be targeted for flushing will be posted on the FLUSHING MAP. The reverse 911 call system will be used as well to inform the public in the areas targeted for flushing each week. Sometimes the flushing may cause a temporary discoloration of the water. The water is safe for drinking but may discolor clothes washed in it. If you experience discoloration, please flush your cold water lines by running fixtures for a few minutes until the water clears.

We regret any inconveniences that this program may cause and thank you for your patience and cooperation. If you have any questions regarding this program, please call us at (219) 462-6174 ext. 0 or contact Chuck McIntire, Distribution Manager, at (219) 462-6174 ext. 1318.
