Equipment
Our department is using the
Invensys Radio Reading System for all of our metering needs. Each meter has a radio transmitter box located close to the meter on the inside of the building. A battery located inside the transmitter sends the reading to a laptop PC. This PC allows the Water Department to read all 10,500 water meters in no more than three days, as opposed to the old meter reading schedule of 22 days.
About The Meters
The water meters and RadioRead System are made by Sensus Technologies, a leading manufacturer of water flow measurement equipment and systems. The meters have a low-flow leak detector - the black triangle visible under the meter's lens cover. The triangle rotates whenever water is passing through the meter, even at extremely low flows, such as when small leaks occur in the piping system.
