Valparaiso Sewer Rehabilitation Project
On May 29, 2015, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Representative Peter Visclosky (IN-1) and officials from Valparaiso, IN, held a groundbreaking ceremony to mark the start of construction for the Valparaiso pipe lining project. This project is being completed in a partnership between the U.S. Army Corps and the City of Valparaiso.
Quality of Life
“Valparaiso’s success hinges upon building bridges and successful relationships. We are thankful for the opportunity to partner with USACE and Congressman Pete Visclosky’s office to help improve the quality of life in Valparaiso.
Continual improvement of our City’s infrastructure is a primary focus of our strategic plan. This project will protect and extend the life of our sewer infrastructure and continue to improve the quality of life for Valparaiso residents,” states Mayor Jon Costas.
Construction will include lining approximately 19,361 linear feet of existing sanitary sewer lines in 20 utility right-of-way and easement locations across Valparaiso. The sanitary sewers will be lined with resin that will be cured in place.
Additionally, up to 70 manholes in the relined sanitary sewers would be inspected and relined as needed. The project will help to alleviate both the commonly occurring sanitary sewer leaking and backup in residential areas.
“This project will extend the life of select portions of the sanitary sewer system within Valparaiso,” Deputy District Commander Lt. Col. Kevin Lovell said. “We’re happy to participate in a project that will help alleviate leakage and basement flooding in the area.
“I am proud to join Mayor Jon Costas and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in launching this infrastructure investment project in Valparaiso. Sewer rehabilitation projects are essential to the protection of our environment and for the improved quality of life of area residents,” Congressman Pete Visclosky said.
A contract was awarded to Industrial and Environmental Services, LLC of Gary, Indiana on September 30, 2014 in the amount of $1,034,140. Field construction work began in May 2015 and is expected to be completed in Summer 2015.
